Chinese Herbal Medicine

Chinese herbal medicine falls under the umbrella of traditional Chinese Medicine and has been successfully used for over 3,000 years. Like acupuncture, herbs work to restore balance by removing blocks, building, and nourishing the body. When there is balance there is peace, harmony and dis-ease is absent.

In general, Chinese herbs are prescribed as a formula and rarely a single herb. Roots, stems, leaves and grasses are combined to create formulas with herbs that enhance and complement each other thus producing effective harmonious products. Many formulas are pre-made while others may be specially formulated just for you depending on the issue at hand.

Chinese herbs may be prescribed when a patient has an acute situation, like a cold, or a chronic issue, like long term back pain. Chinese herbs have been successfully used to treat an array of health concerns including, pain (joint, menstrual, back, headache, arthritis), emotional conditions (anxiety, depression, mood swings), gynecological issues (PMS, amenorrhea, dysmenorrhea, fertility health, menopause) and digestive imbalances (IBS, reflux, diarrhea, constipation) to name a few.

Here at Women In Wellness we currently prescribe Chinese herbs in capsule, tablet or granulated (crushed powder) form.  This makes for easier mixing, convenience and ensures better compliance.  Many times prepared granules, capsules and tablets offer potency 5, 7 or 10 times more than raw herbs. Some products are imported while others are manufactured in the US. Most companies must meet the international pharmaceutical GMP standard and also pass the Australian GMP(TGA) standard and USA NSF certified cGMP certification . If there is a concern please discuss this with your practitioner.

Chinese herbs can be used in conjunction with acupuncture or alone.  They are excellent because they provide the body with treatment every time they are taken.
